Bone density scans

August 2022

During Healthy Bones Action Week 19th–23rd of August 2022, it is important to raise awareness about bone health. Osteoporosis is a major clinical problem in older women and men, in Australia affecting over one million people. It is a debilitating condition but can be treated if diagnosed early.  A ‘dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry’ (DEXA) scan is a widely used diagnostic tool that has the ability to measure bone density and assess the risk of bone fractures.

The good news is that the Adelaide Bodyscan mobile DEXA van will be visiting several of our residential aged care facilities over the coming months. For patients over the age of 70 the DEXA bone scan is fully funded by Medicare once every two years. Please call our friendly reception staff on 1300 739 199 for more information about the RACF visiting schedule.
